May News – From the Grammys to writing 20 New Songs

What’s been flowing lately…

I realized I didn’t write you since January.. The past few months have been a whirlwind—starting with the Grammys LA in February, which was an amazing and unforgettable experience celebrating with all the nominees and winners. Then, I played a bunch of concerts at iBeam, the Intercontinental Barclay Jazz Series and at  ShapeShifter Lab in Brooklyn. After, I flew to Arkansas to speak at the “Women in Music” conference in LaFayetteville.

We took a little breath with a weekend getaway to Pittsburgh—and visited Fallingwater; Frank Lloyd Wright’s iconic home built right on top of a waterfall. Stunning and surreal.

At Berklee, I’ve been teaching two days a week, a variety of classes, from directed studies, mindfulness for musicians to my beloved experimental improvisation ensembles (one of the groups is featuring a wildly creative group of students  including a tap dancer, banjo, harp, cello, guitar, voice, piano and drums). I also teach Professional Development—supporting students as they prepare for “life after Berklee.”

Behind the scenes, I’ve been studying too—taking ‘Berklee Online’ classes in engineering, electronic production, composition, and film scoring to prepare for my next project…

A new project, quietly brewing…

I’ve written over 20 new songs in the last couple months. And while I can’t reveal everything just yet… I can say this: They’ll be recorded on our tiny 1951 Dutch sailboat, De Vouw, floating on the lakes of the Netherlands this August.

I’ll be sharing more soon—including how you can be part of making this crazy journey (and music) possible.

Sharing my voice on Noshir Mody’s new album Abstractions has been a fascinating journey. I’ve added many many layers of vocal textures over his captivating guitar melodies. Listen to my contribution in ‘A Kiss Beneath The Stars‘ – it’s worth your time. We even got a review:

“the sensual and romantic dreamscape of “A Kiss Beneath The Stars,” featuring Mody’s meditative coolness caressed by Vivienne Aerts’ heavenly, angelic voicings”
