Album Review Jazz Bulletin September 2023

Een spectaculaire verpakking die niet alleen een cd bevat maar ook een heerlijk stuk chocola afkomstig van vrouwelijke cacaotelers in Virunga State Park, Congo. De beluistering van dit album zou je dus kunnen combineren met een proeverij. De oorspronkelijk Leidse zangeres Vivienne Aerts (onder meer opgeleid in Berklee) wil het werk van deze vrouwen hiermee steunen en koos daarvoor 100 vrouwelijke musici all over the world. Dat deed ze in covid-tijd, met inzet van alle digitale middelen die ze had. Het resultaat: een veelkleurig album met acht diep doorwerkte eigen songs en twee ‘soundcapes’, van onder meer een pygmeeënkoortje
in Congo.

A spectacular package that not only contains a CD but also a delicious piece of chocolate – from female cocoa growers in Virunga State Park, Congo. Listening to this album could therefore be combined with a tasting. The singer Vivienne Aerts, originally from Leiden (educated in Berklee, among other places), wants to support the work of these women and chose 100 female musicians from all over the world. She did this in Covid times, using all the digital resources she had. The result: a multi-coloured album with eight deeply developed songs of her own and two ‘soundscapes’, including a pygmy choir in Congo.
