My Approach

With a background in both clinical psychology and music, I take a holistic approach to teaching and coaching. I believe each artist is unique, and I tailor my work to the individual or group, helping people tap into their full potential and broaden their spectrum of sounds, styles, and abilities.

My work is not about pushing people into a single method or aesthetic. It is about helping artists listen more deeply, trust more fully, and build a creative life that is both artistically ambitious and personally sustainable.

Whether I am working with a student, a professional artist, a classroom, at Berklee or a community, my goal is always the same: to help people move closer to their most authentic, confident, and expressive work.

SongCraft Retreat: From Inspiration to Demo

I lead intimate songwriting retreats designed to help participants move from inspiration to finished work in a focused, supportive environment.

These retreats combine hands-on writing exercises, practical lectures, creative coaching, and collaborative production, guiding artists from first idea to recorded demo. On the first day, we dive into writing exercises and lectures on creativity and writer’s block, harmony, melody, and rhythm, and lyric writing. On the second day, we collaborate to write, produce, and record an original song.

The experience is intentionally personal and immersive. Group size is limited to ensure that each participant receives individual attention and leaves not only with a basic mix of their song, but also with a clearer writing process, practical tools, and a stronger sense of artistic direction.

Includes: Writing exercises, lectures, collaborative production, recording, lunch and snacks, and a catered dinner on day two
Ideal for: Songwriters, vocalists, producers, and artists looking for momentum, structure, and a finished demo

CircleSongs Brooklyn

I facilitate CircleSongs gatherings in Brooklyn: spontaneous vocal explorations in sound, creativity, and community.

Inspired by the work of Bobby McFerrin and informed by my own studies at Bobby McFerrin’s Circlesong School, these sessions invite participants into a safe and playful space where every voice has a place. We begin with introductory and intermediate games and exercises that bring ease and joy to collaborative improvisation, and then move into circle singing.

CircleSongs are a way of making spontaneous vocal compositions together through rhythm, melody, harmony, invented language, silence, trust, and shared presence. They are as much about connection and courage as they are about music.

These sessions are ideal for singers, improvisers, curious beginners, and anyone interested in voice as a pathway to creativity, collaboration, and freedom.

Education & Institutional Work

Alongside my public offerings, I have developed an extensive practice in higher education, curriculum design, artist development, and music industry education.

After earning my Master’s in Clinical Psychology from Leiden University in 2010, I worked in private practice and as a music therapist, leading choirs for individuals with mental health conditions. I later created and taught Mindful Improvisation at Leiden University, combining mindfulness and creative expression.

Berklee College of Music

My work in education has been shaped by the meeting point of music, psychology, and artistic practice. During my final semester at Berklee in 2014, that foundation led to my involvement with Berklee College of Music’s Effortless Mastery Institute, where I played a significant role in the development of the program. Over the next nine years, I helped build and shape the digital, educational, and public-facing ecosystem behind an internationally recognized artist’s teaching platform, from online courses and a second book launch to curriculum development, websites, funnels, and audience growth of more than 10,000 subscribers. That experience gave me a deep understanding of how artistic knowledge can be translated into sustainable educational platforms with meaningful public reach.

It also grew into my faculty work at Berklee, where I have developed and continue to teach original courses such as Mindfulness-Related Techniques for the Performer and lead the Experimental Improvisation Ensemble. Across this work, I bring together mindfulness, improvisation, creativity, and performer well-being, with a long-term commitment to helping artists build both excellence and sustainability into their practice.

Workshops & Masterclasses

I offer workshops and masterclasses for conservatories, universities, festivals, artist residencies, and creative communities. Topics may include creativity and writer’s block, improvisation, songwriting, mindful performance, emotional resilience, artistic identity, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Ari Hoenig

Artist development, digital education, and brand growth

Over several years of close collaboration with drummer Ari Hoenig, I helped shape and grow his online presence, educational ecosystem, and artist brand. My work extended beyond support into strategy, including educational products, masterclasses, online sales, Patreon structure, content direction, and audience-facing communication. This work sits at the intersection of creative direction, education, artist development, and long-term brand building.

Grammy In The Schools

Music industry education for high school students

I have also participated as a guest educator in Grammy In The Schools, a regional music industry career day presented in partnership with the Recording Academy. The program introduces high school students to the many different career paths available in music and gives them direct access to artists and professionals working in the field.

Speaking & Thought Leadership

Alongside my teaching and artistic work, I also speak and lead conversations on creativity, mindfulness, artistic leadership, interdisciplinary collaboration, and thinking beyond conventional formats. My experience allows me to speak across disciplines, not only about art-making itself, but also about presence, innovation, identity, and the role of creativity in shaping meaningful experiences. My work is informed by a background in clinical psychology, which shapes the way I think about attention, transformation, leadership, and emotional experience. I am available for keynote talks, panels, moderated conversations, workshops, and creative leadership sessions.

Speaking topics may include:

  • Creative Transformation
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration and Innovation
  • Empathy, Leadership, and Resilience
  • Mindfulness and Authentic Expression
  • Sustainable Performance
  • Agility, Improvisation and Flow

Interested in Working Together?

Whether you are looking for a course, retreat, coaching session, workshop, keynote, or educational collaboration, I bring together artistic depth, psychological insight, and practical experience in a way that is personal, rigorous, and creatively expansive. If you are building a program, inviting a speaker, designing an educational experience, or looking for support in your own artistic development, I would love to hear from you.
